Binding is slightly weak at rear hinges where pastedowns are split, but everything is intact. Spine ends are crushed with minor tearing on volume I. Volume I, Prolegomena, includes chapters on early travelers and decipherers, Grotefend and Rawlinson, early explorers in Babylonia, 18th and 19th century explorers in Babylonia and Assyria, the decipherment of Susian, Assyrian, Sumerian, Vannic, the sources on the history of the region, the land and peoples, and more. Volume II, the History of Babylonia, Assyria, and Chaldea, contains chapters on early Sumerian history, the empire of Sargon I, the fall of Larsa, the first and second dynasties of Babylon, the Kassite and Isin dynasties, the beginnings of Assyria, Tiglathpileser, Ashirnazirpal, Shalmaneser, Ashur-Nirari, the reign of Sargon II, Sennacherib, Esarhaddon, Ashurbanipal, the Chaldean empire, Nebuchadrezzar, and more. Robert William Rogers, Ph.D., was a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. When he wrote this two volume work, he was a professor at Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, New Jersey.
