Interior pages are tanned but mostly in good condition.This work was designed for students who had studied, or were studying Persian in India. The book highlights the differences between the Persian of Afghanistan and Iranian Persian in pronunciation, diction, and construction. It also includes notes on composition and rhetoric. The book contains selections from works in Persian, Urdu, and Arabic to demonstrate grammatical differences. Douglas Craven Phillott (1860-1930) was a British army officer, serving in India and later as consul in Persia. He was a scholar of Urdu, Persian, and Hindustani, and also wrote a treatise on falconry in Persian.
