Description: English, translated from the French. Second American edition from the second London edition. Full leather binding with gilt lettering on spine. Leather is greatly worn, dry, and brittle, but mostly intact. There is some splitting at the hinges, and top and bottom of the spine, some stitching is visible. A small amount of pest damage is visible on both boards and spine. Contains two maps between the last page and the rear pastedown: the first is the plan of the field of battle of Moskwa 1812, and the second if the plan of the field of battle of Malo-Jaroslavetz, 1812. The first map appears to be missing a part. Interior pages are somewhat foxed and browned, and some light marginalia including pencil drawings on the flyleaf. The book is an account of parts of the French Invasion of Russia of 1812, initiated by Napoleon. Eugène Labaume (1783-1849), a French geographer and historian, was captain of the Royal Geographical Engineers, ex-officer of the Ordnence of Prince Eugene, Chevalier of the Legion of Honor and of the Iron Crown. He was also the author of An Abridged History of the Republic of Venice. Hardcover. Condition: good. 356 pages, octavo.
