Heiser documents his time in East and Southeast Asia, Northern Africa, and beyond, working first with the Marine Hospital Service, and later as a regional director of the International Health Board of the Rockefeller Foundation, to combat tropical and epidemic diseases that affected those regions, including leprosy, cholera, typhoid, bilharzia, hookworm, and more.
