Heiser documents his time in East and Southeast Asia, Northern Africa, and beyond, working first with the Marine Hospital Service, and later as a regional director of the International Health Board of the Rockefeller Foundation, to combat tropical and epidemic diseases that affected those regions, including leprosy, cholera, typhoid, bilharzia, hookworm, and more. He also documents his interactions with the former king of Siam (Thailand), with Haile Selassie, and others, and the book provides much insight into the work of the Rockefeller Foundation internationally.
