Title: Budget of Fun for Little Folks.
Author: Aunt Maggie
Publisher: Loring, Publisher, Boston
Published: 1863
Binding: Hardcover
Language: English
Edition: 1st edition
Number of Pages: 233
Catalogs: Juvenile, Fiction
Description: Original pink (now golden brown) cloth binding with a vertical wave or herringbone pattern, and gilt lettering on spine. Sunning seems to have caused the discoloration of the cloth, especially at the spine, and there is some spotting and very minor pest damage to boards. Interior pages are greatly foxed and spotted, but otherwise unmarked. The book is dedicated to "Our Jennie," and stories include Sophy's Wax Doll; Svend's Exploits; Pulling Candy; Brilliant Ideas and What Came of Them; The Surprising Adventures of Merry Hans; Recess; The King's Son and the Princess Singorra; The Golden Lantern, Goat, and Cloak, and more. The book was registered and printed by A. K. Loring, a publisher from Boston. At this time, a number of women were writing under pseudonyms preceded by "Aunt," so this book could have been written by one of them, or by someone else hoping to capitalize on their popularity. Hardcover, good+ condition. 233 pages, 16mo.
