Description: Limited edition, number 131 of 501. Six woodcut illustrations by Lynd Ward, with minor discolorations at corners pf illustrations where adhesive was used. Original blue and gold decorative paper boards with blue cloth spine, and decorative slipcase matching cover. Gilt lettering on spine. Slipcase is damaged one one side from age-related fragility, and from an old label, and it is scuffed and somewhat worn in general. The book is in very good condition, with some fading or discoloration to the spine. Both the slipcase and boards appear to be hand-decorated with a stencil and airbrushing. Pages have a deckled fore-edge and gilded top-edge. Interior is slightly tanned but unmarked. Signed by translator on the copyright page, just below numbering of the copy. Alice Pearl Raphael (1887-1975) published translations of both parts one and two of Faust: A Tragedy. Includes an introduction for the modern reader by Mark Van Doren. Hardcover with slipcase, very good condition. 262 pages, octavo.
