Daumier (1808-1879) was a French painter, sculptor, and printmaker, whose many works offer commentary on the social and political life in France, from the Revolution of 1830 to the fall of the Second French Empire in 1870. In these editorial lithographs intended for print publication, he satirized and lampooned the monarchy, aristocracy, clergy, politicians, the judiciary, lawyers, police, detectives, the wealthy, the military, the bourgeoisie, as well as his countrymen and human nature in general. Hardcover, acceptable condition. 240 pages plus index with translations of text, folio 11x14in.
