Contains Smith College Neilson Library sticker on front cover and Smith College bookplate over a former owner's bookplate on the verso pastedown. binding has been repaired with brown library tape at spine and hinges, but boards appear original cloth. Corners very rubbed and rounded from wear. Spine torn at top, and crushed at the bottom. Endpapers contain library markings. Interior is clean except for library stamps and markings, no marginalia. Most of the stitching is intact, but pages 497-512 have separated from the rest of the book. Both hinges are cracked. Contains the author's observations about New Brunswick, Maine, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, New York State, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and other eastern parts of North America. He incorporates into these chapters discussions on religious practices, farming, slavery, treatment of women, education, and much more. 512 pages. Fair condition, octavo.
