Description: Fourth edition; 64 original plates, a few may be missing. Original cloth binding with yellow, orange, and black decoration on cover and spine. Binding is very worn, with edges frayed and exposed, hinges weak, and some pages loose. Dirt and discoloration to cloth, as well as to pages. There may be a small amount of historic dampstain. No known marginalia. The plates in this volume are black and white, but they are photographs of specimens mounted by an expert taxidermist, J. Wallace of New York City, to represent the birds in characteristic attitudes, modified only to show distinctive plumage marks. The birds in this volume observed directly by the author were seen on Long Island, near Flushing, and at points along the Hudson River between New York City and Peekskill. Hardcover, acceptable condition. 220 pages, horizontal 12mo.
