The writings, speeches, and letters of Charles I compiled by his supporters after his execution in 1649. The writings are categorized by their civil and religious themes. A main focus is Charles I's views on the Church of England. Samuell Browne was a publisher in London and the Hague between 1637 and 1665, and following the English Civil War, as a supporter of the royalists, moved to the Hague and published royalist literature such as this book. He returned to England after the Stuart Restoration, but died of plague in 1665. Leather binding with raised bands on spine, and American Congregational Library (Boston) catalog number pasted to the top of the spine. Binding contains marbled pastedowns. Both covers and the spine have detached from the book. Page edges are red. Interior pages mostly in good condition, slight water damage, minor foxing, no marginalia. Contains a folding plate, representing Charles with the crown of thorns in his right hand. "The pourtraicture of his sacred Majesty in his solitudes and sufferings" and "A perfect copie of prayers used by His Majestie in the time of his sufferings" have separate title pages dated 1649. Last marked page is 324, but book is in several sections, each paginated separately. Hardcover, fair condition, 16mo.
