Description: Illustrated. Contains fold-out map of Worcester, Massachusetts. Original brown cloth binding with gilt lettering on spine. Former pest-damage at sine hinges. Spine is also frayed at both ends. Hinges are weak. Brown glazed endpapers with ownership penciling, otherwise free of marks. Frontispiece depicts a view of Main Street, Worcester, in 1836. The map shows the oldest roads and locations of earliest settlers. Map has a few small tears. Illustrations scattered throughout, mostly of homes and historic buildings; some of these illustrations are protected by tissue. Contents include early history and settlements, genealogical records, ecclesiastical history, schools, municipal officers, burial grounds, courts and courthouses, Washington and Lafayette in Worcester, ancient dwellings, hotels, post offices, railroads and depots, printers and newspapers, and more.
