Description: Half Morocco leather binding with marbled boards and gilt lettering and decoration on spine. Spine has raised bands. Leather has three small tears, as well as scuffing to the corners and hinges. Two corners exposed. Binding is tight, and has been very gently treated. Pastedowns marbleized to match exterior boards in gold, blue, and cream. Minor pest damage to page fore-edges. Page top-edged gilded, some foxing to pages, no known marginalia. Bookplate of H. R. Bishop on verso pastedown. Frontispiece of Lord Herbert of Cherbury. Contains fold-out genealogical table. Six hundred copies printed for England, and 400 for America. Edward Herbert, first Baron Herbert of Cherbury (1583-1648) was an English soldier, diplomat, historian, poet and religious philosopher of the Kingdom of England.
