Description: Illustrated. Volume Genesis-Judges. Frontispiece depict Henry, Scott, and Doddridge who wrote the original commentary within. This frontispiece is protected by a tissue-guard, and on the facing page there is an engraving of Moses receiving the law. Original full calf binding with raised bands and gilt lettering on spine. Substantial damage to the leather, especially at corners and on spine; leather at hinges is cracked. Boards are scuffed. Water damage to inside front hinge area. Marbleized page edges, matching marbleized endpapers in blue, brown, and pink. Interior contents in good condition. Pages are moderately foxed, but otherwise unmarked, and stitching is firm. Title continues: with extensive explanatory, critical, and philological notes selected from Scott, Doddridge, Gill, Adam Clarke, Patrick, Poole, Lowthe, Burder, Harmer, Calmet, Stuart, Robinson, Bush, Rosenmueller, Bloomfield, and many other writers on the scriptures. The whole designed to be a digest and combination of the advantages of the best bible commentaries, and embracing all that is valuable in Henry, Scott, and Doddridge. Conveniently arranged for family and private reading, and at the same time particularly adapted to the wants of sabbath school teachers and bible classes; with numerous useful tables.
