Description: Original blind-embossed brown cloth binding, with gilt lettering on spine. Spine edges and board points are worn and rubbed, but the embossed areas of the spine and boards are in very good condition. The interior is quite clean Contains one illustration, labeled "Frontispiece: copied from 'The Only Sure Guide.'" Small pasted bookplate from the Antique Book Shop in Worcester MA on top edge of rear pastedown. This book is a compilation of Warren Burton's earlier writings, on the New England district school (originally published in 1833) and New England's natural landscapes (originally published in 1844), and a few other miscellaneous essays, including a humorous essay about pronunciation, and the faith of the African in the United States. Warren Burton (1800-1866) was an American clergyman with writings on transcendentalism, phrenology, and education. Hardcover, very good condition, 364 pages, 12mo.
