Original white cloth binding with gilt lettering and decoration on spine and front board. Top edge gilt and deckled fore- and bottom edges. Some soiling to boards and spine, and some of the gilt lettering is worn away. Slight foxing and tanning to pages, a few spots, no marginalia. The Little Minister is set in Thrums, a Scottish weaving village based on Barrie’s birthplace, and concerns Gavin Dishart, a young impoverished minister with his first congregation. The weavers he serves soon riot in protest against reductions in their wages and harsh working conditions. Sir James Matthew Barrie (1860-1937) was a Scottish novelist and playwright, best remembered as the creator of Peter Pan. Hardcover, good condition. 454 pages, octavo.
