Description: Original blind embossed brown cloth binding with gilt lettering on spine. Spine shows wear at edges and hinges, and corners are bumped and exposed. Interior pages are in excellent condition, unmarked with only slight foxing. Ownership information and a few light notations in pencil on flyleaf and rear pastedown. Very minor pest damage on rear board. The book is organized in two parts and five sections, including elocutionary principles, exercises illustrating the rules, lessons in prose, lessons in poetry, and dialogues and dramatic pieces. The Reverend Salem Town, L.L.D. was born in Belchertown, Massachusetts in 1779, was educated at Middlebury College, and taught in New York state for forty years. Hardcover, good condition. 504 pages, 12mo.
