Undine, or the Water Spirit, was originally published in 1811 and is an early German romance in which a water-spirit marries a knight in order to gain a soul. Sintram and his companions is a romance inspired by Albrecht Dürer's famous engraving Knight, Death, and the Devil. It might be considered an early fantasy, exploring the conflict between Christian ascetic love and pagan passion. Hardcover, good condition, 238 pages, 12mo.
